EUSR CERTIFIED TRAINING COURSES

TRAINING COURSES

We run EUSR certified training courses on electrofusion, butt fusion and flange assemblies to raise the knowledge and skills of operators and to continually improve asset installation standards.

Our training consists of presentations and practical sessions and can be delivered in our purpose-built training facility or on-site to suit your requirements.

EUSR JOINTING BY ELECTROFUSION

It is recognised that up to 20% of electrofusion installations are subject to the following issues:

  • Contamination – where dirt, grease or water are present the bonding process is significantly reduced or prevented.
  • Pipe end preparation – PE surfaces need to be removed by correct scraping before fusion welding.
  • Alignment – failure to clamp and align electrofusion weld assemblies increases the potential of service failure.
  • Product issues – although very occasionally fittings, pipe and equipment may be faulty.

Our training covers the following core elements:

  • Understanding the materials and products, explaining the benefits and longevity of polyethylene systems in creating and supporting a leak free network.
  • Demonstrating use of correct equipment for the electrofusion process.
  • Best practice, providing the best methodology for preparing, assembling and fusing EF joints.
  • Demonstrating how poor practice can severely impact the jointing process.
  • Providing the skills and underpinning knowledge to recognise issues and correct action to take.
  • Practical Assessment of Electrofusion Joint Preparation and Welding.

EUSR JOINTING BY BUTT FUSION

It is recognised that butt fusion installations are subject to the following issues:

  • Contamination – Where dirt, grease or water are present the bonding process is significantly reduced.
  • Pipe end preparation – where the trimming of pipes to be butt fused has failed to:
    • Remove the degraded layer of polymer.
    • Create a flat pipe end for full contact with heater plate.
  • Alignment – when pipe ends are aligned incorrectly heat transference and applied pressures reduce the strength of the weld.
  • Cold fusion – Where insufficient heat is applied a ‘cold weld’ is formed which will visually look suitable but bond is reduced.
  • Product issues – although very occasionally pipe and equipment may be faulty.

Our training covers the following core elements:

  • Understanding the materials and products, explaining the benefits and longevity of polyethylene systems in creating and supporting a leak free network.
  • Demonstrating use of correct equipment together with welding station set up.
  • Preparing, assembling and fusing of butt fusion joints.
  • Demonstrating how poor practice can severely impact the jointing process.
  • Providing the skills and underpinning knowledge to recognise issues and the corrective actions.
  • Practical Assessment of creating a Butt Fusion Joint.
EUSR JOINTING BY FLANGE

It is recognised that up to 90% of mechanical flange installations are subject to the following issues:

  • Incorrect installation methods – resulting in unequal loading and premature failure.
  • Flange face damage – preventing the formation of a leak free seal.
  • Incorrect gasket selection – resulting in environmental stress, causing premature failure.
  • Overtightening of bolts – reducing hydraulic performance during natural movement of pipework in operation.
  • Failure to lubricate bolts – resulting in incorrect torque loading.

Our training covers the following core elements:

  • Explanation of what a flange mechanical connection is designed to achieve, compatible materials and components.
  • Preferred gasket selection, and how the correct selection influences the lifetime performance of the completed flange connection.
  • Equipment and ancillary component selection and use i.e. torque wrenches, spanners, bolts and lubricants.
  • Providing the best methodology for preparing and assembling multi material flange assemblies, and demonstrating how poor practice can severely impact the jointing process.
  • Providing the skill and knowledge to recognise material, product and equipment issues which can impact on the flange assembly process, and the correct actions and responses to take where these are identified.
  • Practical testing demonstration to evidence flange connection quality where best practice and correct equipment have been utilised to create a multi material assembly.

Pressure testing
PRESSURE TESTING

It is recognised that up to 68% of installations fail the pressure test first time, and 25% fail for safety interventions due to:

  • Incorrect test selection – not using the required test
  • Incorrect testing methods – not correctly performing the test
  • Inappropriate controls and environmental issues – dangers of air
  • Incorrect installation of components – e.g. flanges, mechanical, electrofusion

Our training covers the following core elements:

  • Materials – Polyethylene, Aquatherm, Barrier pipe, Ductile Iron, Stainless steel, GRP, MoPVC
  • Explanation of all test types – 10 min, Type II, Water Added, Water Loss, Pressure Loss and rebound test
  • Each test will be explained in detail – What, how and when
  • Filling a pipe and how to purge the air safely
  • Impacts of air entrapment and air content indicators

Providing the skill and knowledge to recognise to understand how to correctly perform a pressure test, and the correct actions and responses to take to eliminate risk.

Course includes practical demonstrations and a written test.
