Josh Britton, Ovarro

What does your typical day at work look like?

Product Management sits between multiple departments and acts as a conduit between Sales, Marketing, Engineering and Operations. Each day can be very different and you can find yourself being involved in anything from a customer meeting, engineering meetings, marketing or operations meeting. You end up having a lot of knowledge about different aspects of the business and a key role for a Product Manager is to understand how this all fits together.

Product Management has now been embedded in to Ovarro for over a year and with additional Product Managers coming in to the department, my typical day will change to allow for Product Management to be involved in more aspects of the business and really drive the portfolio forward.

How many people do you think you speak to during the day?

On a normal day, working remote, I usually speak to 5-10 people. When in the office I’ll speak to a lot more people as you are more likely to have a general chat in the common area.

What do you aim to accomplish each day?

I usually create myself a to-do list for the day if tasks I want to achieve. With Product Management, you have to include different people in your tasks and some can take days or weeks as everyone is very busy!

What three words would you say describes your role?

  • Interesting
  • Challenging
  • creative

What has been your most memorable work moment so far?

There has been a lot going on and a lot of change over my 13 months in Ovarro. Product Management has been changing with the business but I think my most memorable moment was attending our Channel Partner Event in Belgium last year.

What’s your favourite thing about the job?

My favourite thing is how much variance there is in the role. There is never a dull day and you’re never doing the same thing every day.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

When I get some free time (rare with 2 young kids), I enjoy running, playing guitar and bouldering.

If you could go anywhere on holiday, where would it be?

If I could go anywhere it would be to go to Space!

What gets you on your Soapbox? (i.e. what annoys you/issues that you are passionate about)

I try not to get on a soapbox (too much) but if I do it’s usually Politics!
