People Behind the Business - Channel Sales

ID Card

Introducing our new Vice President, Channel Sales, Tom Cork, who joined Ovarro at the start of the new year. Read what he has to say about his new role and his journey in the industry so far.

What is your typical day at work like in Channel Sales?

In my role its rare for any day to be the same.  Prior to the Covid-19 pandemic I was travelling approximately 50% , so working from home so much has been a massive change for me.  Within the same day I could have several different meetings with several people and functions, and due to the channel element, different companies, covering a whole host of topics.  In my short time at Ovarro my days have been very much about getting to understand the organisation better and meet the teams, remotely of course!

What attracted you about Ovarro?

I liked the vision that was presented to me by the Leadership Team and I welcomed the opportunity to join an organisation that wanted me to hit the ground running.  Having worked for large multinational organisations in the past I was excited about working for a smaller company with huge ambitions that wants to encourage the entrepreneurial spirit that I have.

What do you hope to achieve in your new role?

I want to help Ovarro realise its ambitions, grow it’s network of channel partners and expand sales into territories and markets that are yet to be explored by the company.

What three words would you use to describe your role?

Demanding, varied and  motivating.

What has been your most memorable career moment so far?

I know it may be a cliché to say, but there is not really a ‘most memorable’ moment so far, but there has been many moments which stand-out.  Winning my first order with a UK based utility company and then having to hire and drive the van myself to deliver the products on time was quite memorable.  Leaving my pregnant wife at home to take a position (albeit temporary) in Zurich was certainly a challenge, and a flight, that I won’t forget.  I can only hope to make many more memories with Ovarro in the coming years.

Outside of work, what do you enjoy doing?

I have two young boys so they, naturally, take up a lot of my spare time.  I am an avid supporter of Liverpool FC and can’t wait to start going to the games again.  I love most sports (golf, soccer, rugby or cricket) and I am loving watching my boys become more and more interested in those sports to.

If you could go anywhere on holiday, where would it be?

I have been very fortunate to travel to many countries around the world. One holiday that I very much would like to take is to take my family to South Africa; Cape Town is a wonderful city and I would love to take my sons on Safari to the Kruga Park (maybe even take in a bit of cricket whilst we’re over there).

What gets you on your Soapbox?

I do try to make a conscious effort to keep my soapbox very much locked away, certainly in the work environment, but when it comes to a passion I guess I’m pretty passionate about sales.  I see winning an order like scoring a goal, something to strive for, something to recognise and for the really important ones, something to celebrate.
